Description
What is KPV?
KPV is a three-amino-acid peptide: lysine, proline and valine. It corresponds to residues 11–13 at the C-terminal end of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), the region associated with α-MSH’s anti-inflammatory activity in research models. Its small size has made it a subject of interest for studying that activity in isolation.

Research context
- Inflammatory signaling: studied for inhibition of NF-κB activation and pro-inflammatory cytokine production in cell models.
- Intestinal epithelium: investigated in intestinal epithelial cell and experimental colitis models, including uptake through the PepT1 peptide transporter.
- Skin and barrier research: examined in keratinocyte and other epithelial models.
- Antimicrobial activity: studied for activity against microorganisms in laboratory models.
